Congratulations to our 6th grade English Language Arts teacher, Lillian M. Hemphill! She has been selected as one of only 20 educators nationwide to attend the 5th Annual Teacher Institute for Watershed Science and Conservation, hosted by The Ecology School in Maine.
This highly regarded professional development opportunity helps equip educators with innovative teaching techniques in environmental science, conservation, and water stewardship.
Her participation will not only enrich her own teaching but also benefit the entire school community by fostering a deeper understanding of environmental conservation.

🐻🧶 At SHMS, we don’t just teach—we learn together! For the first time ever, our staff has started a crochet club, the Grizzly Yarn Gurus, and we are officially hooked! 🪡✨
Huge shout out to the real MVP, Ms. Erica Nelson, who is leading the way and keeping us from tying ourselves in knots! 😂 Her patience, skill, and encouragement have us stitching our way to success.
It’s been a great way to unwind, learn something new, and spend time with coworkers outside the usual school routine. The best part? We’re proving that SHMS isn’t just a workplace—it’s a community where we support each other, grow together, and have fun while we’re at it.
Stay tuned for our progress—if all goes well, we might just have beach bags and summer accessories ready in time for vacation! ☀️🏖️
