What happens on AVID Day?
Schools and districts across the country participate in events and activities to honor AVID's mission.
Students are encouraged to make declarations of their "AVID Why," expressing their personal reasons for participating in the program and their commitment to academic goals.
The day is a time to recognize the hard work of educators and the achievements of students, as well as the broader community that supports the AVID system. Go Stingers!!!

Hispanic Heritage Month is just around the corner, and MMS is ready! Our Spanish students have been working hard to celebrate and honor this special time. They have explored Hispanic countries, learning about their traditions, governments, leaders, populations, and many other fascinating facts.
Students also created their own telares. Telares, or weaving, is a Central American tradition dating back to pre-Hispanic times, long before the arrival of the Spanish. They further explored history by making crafts with seeds, symbolizing the origin of food and agriculture in early civilizations.
We are so proud of our students’ dedication and creativity as they bring Hispanic heritage to life in our classrooms! Go Stingers!!!

and opportunity. Pulaski County Judge Barry Hyde honored PCSSD by declaring September 12, 2025, as “AVID Day” in Pulaski County, Arkansas. Read more about it here: https://www.pcssd.org/article/2414479 #PCSSDproud #ServeAll #myAVIDwhy #AVIDDay

We are proud to celebrate Chef Appreciation Week, a time to honor the chefs who bring passion, creativity, and care to every meal they prepare for our students. At PCSSD, we have a pair of chefs who transform food into celebration, comfort, connection, and community – Chartwells' Executive Chef King Joseph and Chef Sarah Montgomery, who prepare meals in our cafés & caterings for district staff; help train our kitchen staffs; conduct in-café programs with our students; and so much more. Thank you, Chef King & Chef Sarah, for all you do for the students of PCSSD!

Tomorrow, PCSSD students and staff—let’s turn the hallways into a runway of college and career readiness! Every shirt you wear tells your story of where you've been or where you want to be.
