LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- Every student grades third through fifth participated in a book tasting in the Library Learning Center at College Station Elementary during Read Across America week.
The book tasting gave students an opportunity to be exposed to different genres of books. It also was an easy way to get students engaged and excited about reading. Many of the books available during the tasting were ones the students might not ever look at on their own.
This activity is part of the R.I.S.E initiative through the Division of Secondary and Elementary Education. R.I.S.E. (Reading Initiative for Student Excellence) Arkansas encourages a culture of reading by coordinating a statewide reading campaign with community partners, parents, and teachers to establish the importance of reading in homes, schools, and communities.
